The RBC Canadian Open is the 3rd oldest continuously run event on the PGA tour. Each year, this event attracts the top players on Tour. This year, the tournament was held at Oakdale Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Canada. This year’s story is sure to bring some drama as Rory McIlroy will be trying to win this tournament for the 3rd time in a row, which would be a first for him. In addition, a lot of Canadian hopefuls will be trying to reclaim the title here, a feat that has not been accomplished since Pat Fletcher won this event back in 1954, nearly 70 years ago. In addition to hometown pride, players are also looking to fine tune their skills ahead of the US Open, played the following week.
The Purse at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open
The Purse at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open is $9 million, just a 3% improvement compared to last year. As per usual, this isn’t among the highest payouts we see on Tour, especially in the world of designated events. The winner at this year’s RBC Canadian Open was Nick Taylor, who won in dramatic fashion to regain the Canadian title for Canada after a 69-year drought. With this win, Taylor takes home a hopping $1.62 million, $54,000 more than Rory McIlroy took home at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open.
How much does the winning caddie make at the RBC Canadian Open?
The winning caddie at this year’s RBC Canadian Open was Dave Markle. With is win, Markle will take home $162,000. Though not a significant amount more than the $156, 600 Harry Diamond, Rory McIlroy’s Caddie, took home last year, this is still a pretty good payday for a weekend. This is the standard 10% of winnings caddies take home for being on the winning bag.
How much do caddies make at the 2023 RBC Canadian Open?
The caddie payouts will vary pretty significantly based on how players finish on Sunday. We know, though, that there’s $607,635 in prize money available for the caddies that make the cut over the weekend. Using the traditional player-caddie, where caddies make 5% for placing outside the top 10, 7% for placing inside the top 10, and 10% for winning, we’ve projected what the payouts could look like for each caddie after the dust settles on Sunday.
