Spring is here and just as the weather turns, the Masters is here with its beauty is on full display. Every year, we see the best in the world compete for, perhaps, the most coveted trophy in all of golf. The field is stacked with players from both the PGA Tour and LIV Tour. This is the first event that LIV players have been invited to play in the 2023 season. With LIV players in the field, though, we can bet there’s some extra competition happening to see which tour has the best competition.
We've seen a lot of drama unfold over the weekend, with the weather wreaking havoc on the field. Brooks Koepka, though, seemed to be unaffected and held at least a share of the lead for the first three rounds.
In the end, it was Jon Rahm that rose to the top of the leaderboard with a fiery three-under final round score of 69.
The Purse at the 2023 Masters
This year, the total purse at The Masters is $18 million. This is a record pot at the event and a whopping 20% more that the prize money at the 2022 Masters. In the world of the new designated events, we’ve become accustomed to seeing pots increase by as much as 25% compared to 2022. Just a few weeks back, we had a record purse of $25 million at the Players Championship. With a win, Rahm will be awarded with a $3.24 million payday. This is a 24% improvement on what was paid out last year.
How much does the winning caddie make at The Masters?
The winning caddie at this year's Masters is Adam Hayes. With the win, Hayes stands to earn $324,000. This is the standard 10% of the winners share and a staggering 24% more than Ted Scott took home last year with Scottie’s win. The total purse available to the caddies that made the cut amounts to $1.2 million.
How much do caddies make at The Masters?
For the rest of the caddies in the field, their earnings will vary based on each professional's performance. Based on traditional player-caddie agreements we know that caddies make 5% of earnings if the player places outside the top 10, 7% if the player finishes within the top 10, and 10% if the player finishes in 1st place. Using this model, we've broken down how much each caddie is expected to take home based on how the players finish when the dust settles.
