The 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open is the first full-field designated event on the PGA tour. Its field is packed with about 17 of the top 20 golfers in the world, which makes for an action-packed weekend. The venue is set at TPC Scottsdale, The Stadium Course, Famed for its colosseum-styled 16th hole, The Stadium Course always draws a massive crowd which brings some of the highest energy of all the events on the tour. The week was off to a great start, where we see two Canadians rise atop the leaderboard with a pair of early 66s, Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin. Over the weekend, it came down to a battle between previous champion, Scottie Scheffler, and Nick Taylor. After the dust cleared, it was Scottie Scheffler that rose atop the leaderboard to successfully defend his title and reclaim his spot as the number one golfer in the world.
The Overall Purse at the WM Phoenix Open
The purse at the 2023 Phoenix Open is $20 million. This is the largest pot so far in the calendar year, 30% more than what was available at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. With this win, Scottie will be taking home a very healthy $3.6 million, which is the usual 18% of the pot awarded to winners on Tour. That that he needs it after his performance last year, but that kind of money is more than enough to take financial pressure off his shoulders, allowing him to properly strategize on which tournaments to play and which weeks he could afford to rest. It also allows them to take proper care of his caddie for his hard work.

For some context, Joe Greiner, Max Homa’s caddie took home about half that amount, earning $156,000 after their win.
