Scottie Scheffler is a humble, Christian golfer on the PGA tour whose ascension to No. 1 in the World Golf rankings seemingly happened in the glimpse of an eye. His raw golf talent propelled him into the limelight in mid 2021 when he was selected to play on the 2020 Ryder Cup team, where he finished with a record of 2-0-1. His showing at the Ryder Cup gave the world a glimpse into what looks like a very promising golf future. Even with such great talent, Scottie had knocked on the door a few times but was unable to make the final push late on a Sunday to secure a victory on the PGA tour. Things started to change for Scottie once he began to partner with his now permanent caddie. Since partnering with his new caddie, Scottie has won 4 of his last 6 starts since his first victory. While Scottie was always a great player in his own right, there seems to be something very different about the relationship he has with his caddie. Here are some interesting things to know about Scottie Scheffler’s caddie.

Who is Scottie Scheffler's caddie?

Scottie Scheffler's caddie is Ted Scott. Ted is a veteran caddie on the PGA tour. He has been caddying for over 21 years and has caddied for some very notable names. In the past, Scott had caddied for Paul Azinger, one of the announcers on The Golf Channel. Scott is most well known for his partnership with Bubba Watson, where the two spent over 15 years together. In that time, they amassed an amazing 12 victories, two of which were at The Masters at Augusta National. Ted Scott is also known to be an online golf instructor. He has over 49K followers on Instagram. In his private life, Ted is also a Christian, so he shares a lot of the same values as Scottie Scheffler.

When did Ted Scott become Scottie Scheffler’s caddie?

In October of 2021, Bubba Watson announced that he and Ted Scott would mutually part ways after 15 successful years working together. Bubba revealed in 2022 that the two were not fully aligned on future goals and that was the main factor in the decision to end the partnership. About a month after the announcement, sometime in November of 2021, Scottie Scheffler asked Ted Scott to be his permanent caddie. The two had met in a Bible study so Scottie told Ted and his family to pray on it for a week. After 2 weeks of prayers, Ted’s family felt it was the right decision for him to pick up Scottie Scheffler’s bag. Since the two partnered together, they won 4 of their first 11 starts, one of which was Scottie’s first Major win at the 2022 Masters.

How much does Ted Scott, Scottie Scheffler’s caddie, make a year?

Due to the many fluctuations that happen with a performance based compensation, a caddie can earn very different wages from one year to the next. For that reason, we’ll focus on how much Ted Scott earned while caddying for Scottie Scheffler in the 2021-2022 season. The formula used in this estimate is what most tour players use for paying their caddies: 5% of earnings if the player places outside the top 10, 7% if the player finishes within the top 10, and 10% if the player finishes in 1st place. Based on this information, we estimate that Ted Scott may have made somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,028,750 while caddying for Scottie Cameron in the 2021-2022 season on the PGA Tour.
